Description:

This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and will provide the company with a thorough understanding of the segments that make up the US Hispanic market. Build a strong understanding of the drivers of brand equity and the linkages to brands and the trade in these communities. Identify the best methodologies to assess the components of brand equity measurement and the implications on brand positioning, advertising, messaging, promotion and media in this audience. Description:

The Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of a large telecommunications entity; it offers wireless products and services in markets outside the United States with a significant presence in Latin America.

The Company's international operations' contribution to its growth continues to expand. Since 1985, the Company has offered cellular and other integrated telecommunications services in 13 countries worldwide. Building on the company's core cellular business, it is rapidly expanding into new lines of business such as long distance, data transmission, internet access and network services.

As the Company's strategy evolves away from business development to a more operational focus, it seeks to leverage its investment in these economies. In this particular example, the Company wishes to hone its ability to segment its target customer base for optimal penetration and future growth.

THE POSITION
The Director, Segmentation is responsible for identifying and specifying target markets and leveraging market research. He/she will assist IT in developing a common region-wide data model, developing templates for market targeting and implementing campaign tracking of programs for targeted actions. This position interfaces constantly with the Customer Relationship Management, Customer Operations, IT, and Marketing Managers within the Operating Companies. At headquarters, they work closely with IT regarding inputs for data modeling, as well as the Retention Programs Director and the Customer Operations team in Atlanta.

This position will report to the Vice President of Marketing Programs and Services.

The initial priorities of the role are to:
  1. Develop common definitions and coordinate the proposal for the implementation of a region-wide segmentation roadmap.
  2. Support segmentation program implementation in each market and translate the requirements into IT specifications. Assist with IT in developing a common region-wide data model.
  3. Develop templates for market targeting and implement campaign tracking programs for targeted actions.
  4. Leverage Market Research and implement a research forum (methodologies and results). Develop a common template to analyze market demand by customer groups in every operation.
  5. Collaborate in the completion of the research initiatives (forum, planning, etc.).
  6. Implement Customer Base Stratification across all operating companies followed by marketing the base by lifetime value proxy.
CANDIDATE PROFILE

Key competencies required in the ideal candidate will include:
  • Market Segmentation and Customer Relationship Management expertise: As demonstrated by "best in breed" segmentation and customer strategy experience with companies known for their expertise in this area; Demonstrated results developing and implementing segmentation strategies for quantifiable success - both in relation to current and future customer groups; and Benchmark experience in market segmentation gleaned from practical application in a broad range of organizations and industries. While experienced in both business-to-business and business-to-customers are helpful, the Company's predominately consumer customer base dictates that the candidate has a demonstrated track record of success in the residential market segments.

  • Strategic marketing excellence balanced with pragmatic technical/tactical thinking: Evidenced by a deep understanding of information systems infrastructure; Prowess in data modeling, working with IT departments and market research methodology; and a proven understanding of the customer experience in prior roles. The successful candidate will have previously demonstrated the ability to inventory segmentation practices from disparate groups within an organization and bring processes and people together to build cross-region or cross-business best practices.

  • Skill managing in a dynamic, decentralized global organization: Candidates must be bi-lingual (Spanish/English) and possess a demonstrated ability to work effectively within a dynamic international management structure. He/she must be either a Latin American native or have significant living/working experience in-country. Regional travel is anticipated at 25% long-term; however, 50-75% travel may be necessary in the early months of this role.

  • Change leadership, communication and influencing abilities, particularly in a multi-divisional, matrixed and global environment, in which the input of multiple parties is important to decision making, and their buy-in and support are critical to successful change programs. The individual will have demonstrated abilities to build bridges across organizations, balancing persuasive evangelism and an action-orientation with diplomacy and collaborative capability.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as CCI's utmost authority and representative on public relations activities and their ability to build brand equity and boost the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. Directs PR 'strategic thinking' for CCI clients; handles issues management; crisis management; news relations; employee information; and stakeholder management.

2. Attends meetings with clients and/or client team meetings to stay informed about research, strategic direction, and overall campaign goals.

3. Uses campaign information, in addition to his/her own knowledge of integrated marketing communications, to recommend to clients and write proposals for PR activities that will boost the effectiveness of TV, print, radio, outdoor, and direct mail advertising.

4. Identifies stakeholders and helps CCI's president and CEO and account supervisors to build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders (marketing team members, senior management, brand managers, Hispanic employee organizations, etc.) and external key stakeholders (news media, trade journals, vendors, etc.). In conjunction with this responsibility, directs the maintenance of databases with all key stakeholders and another with all media contact information and media kits. Arranges for regular updates of databases.

5. Arranges for positive publicity for CCI clients. Writes and edits news releases, background fact sheets, Qs & As, bios, press packets, and materials necessary for press conferences and other types of conferences and presentations. Assures adherence to AP style for news writing.

6. Directs the organization and implementation of press and other types of conferences necessary for PR activities.

7. Directs or handles the recruitment of temporary help and free lancers, and their training, to help implement public relations projects.

8. Serves as day-to-day contact for CCI, CCI's account supervisors, CCI clients and their public relations staff, and client team members, CCI's media directors, vendors, and media representatives associated with public relations projects.

9. Directs the creation of and maintenance of files on vendors who provide services that may be necessary to implement public relations projects, such as free lance writers.

10. Uses Clients and Profits to open job numbers, enter time spent on specific clients, including CCI, create cost estimates and proposals - all with the intention of accurately billing clients.

11. Serves on the new business team and assists with new business presentation writing.
